Harbor House Assisted Living
Caring For The Memory Impaired
Dementia Care isn’t just part of what we do, it’s all we do.
At Harbor House, we are devoted to caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and memory impairments here in our specially designed three-floor residence.
Harbor House is the first residential facility in New York dedicated to patients with Alzheimer’s disease and memory impairments.
With everything under one roof, we place our residents on one of three floors according to the specific social and cognitive abilities of each individual. Having everything they need on one floor allows our residents to freely move around on one level and to feel comfortable with their peers. Each floor has its own nursing team, med techs, and aides to ensure that every resident gets the care and attention they need. Additionally, our therapeutic recreation program provides appropriate activities that encourage social involvement; improve cognition, movement, and motor skills; and give each person a sense of achievement.
The mission of Harbor House assisted living is to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and dignified care to each one of our residents. We are personally invested in every facet of our resident’s well-being including their outward appearance and their emotional, cognitive, and physical health. Our Harbor House assisted living residents always come first, and we maintain an unending commitment to always acting in the best interest of our residents and their families.
Our Care

Our Nursing Team
Providing the highest standard of nursing is an integral part of the outstanding care we bring to our residential setting. We are proud that Harbor House has more nurses on staff than any other assisted-living facility in Long Island. In addition to our amazing RNs and LPNs on every floor, we have personal care aides on staff, maintaining a strict 8:1 ratio per floor, as well as EMTs and med techs on staff 24 hours a day.

Therapeutic Recreation
The goal of the therapeutic recreation team is to optimize the time residents spend in communal settings amongst friends. With approximately 57% of Harbor House’s square footage devoted to common areas, the generous size of the building allows for spacious areas where our residents are safe to walk or wander around as they wish. We will work with you to learn about your loved one’s interests and hobbies, likes and dislikes in order to cater to their needs as fully as possible and help them feel at home. We offer music and art therapy as well as various therapeutic activities with an emphasis on reminiscence. Additionally, residents can choose to play bingo, spend time gardening or pursue adaptive sports, pet therapy, equine therapy, or clown therapy. We also organize regular socials, poetry sessions, religious services, trips, and so much more.

Levels Of Care
As your loved one is unique, his or her care should be unique as well. Our professional team evaluates each resident to ensure they receive the right amount and type of care, based on their medical, cognitive, and social needs. While independence is always encouraged, it’s crucial for each resident to receive the care he or she needs in order to thrive. Our Levels of Care are based on a four-stage assessment model that is performed by our nurse and care manager at the time of admission.
